The Programme

The graduate programme has been designed to ensure that you make a valued contribution to Thorntons from the first day you join the business by placing you in a real job where you will be set objectives that you will need to deliver to support the business growth strategy.

Working for Thorntons provides a breadth of career opportunities across the range of the business, including, Thorntons Direct, Marketing, Supply Chain (including Purchasing, Manufacturing and Logistics), Retail, Commercial (sales), Finance and HR.

For 2010 we are looking to recruit supply chain focused graduates. The graduate programme will support your career development across a 2 year period, and within that time you will undertake 3 placements to give you experience across the business through a combination of functional specialism and cross functional exposure; so for example you may do an initial placement in our manufacturing function, a second placement in another function such as Marketing, Finance, Commercial, Thorntons Direct or HR and a final placement in Supply Chain.

After the initial 2 years, you, together with the company will agree which function you will continue to progress in. You are a future manager of Thorntons and having proved your drive and ability during the programme you can expect to be promoted to management.

Training & Support

As a Thorntons Graduate you will undertake a 2 year development programme aligned to:

  • Understanding the Business
  • Understanding Yourself
  • Understanding Others

Placement specific training will be provided within each of the 3 rotations over the 2 year programme for the more specialist aspects of your role, for example purchasing contract law, negotiation skills, lean manufacturing, and health and safety.

You will also have a mentor to support and guide you throughout the 2 year programme.
